Our Story

Where Earth's Rarest
Treasures Begin

Ethiogemstone was born from a deep belief: that Ethiopia holds some of the world's most extraordinary gemstones, and they deserve to be seen, held, and treasured by collectors and jewelers across the globe.

We travel directly to our three primary sourcing regions: Welo, renowned for its crystal and fire opals, Guji in Oromia, our main origin for tourmalines and sapphires, and Tigray, source of some of Ethiopia's finest collector stones. In each region, we build trusted relationships with local miners and cooperatives who share our commitment to fair pay, transparency, and direct trade.

From Ethiopia, each rough gemstone travels to Thailand, home to some of the world's finest lapidaries. In the cutting rooms of Chanthaburi, master craftsmen unlock the full potential of each stone, transforming natural mineral into a work of art.

The result reaches collectors, jewelry houses, and investors in Dubai, Europe, and beyond, not as merchandise, but as chapters of an extraordinary geological story.

Ethiopian Paraíba TourmalineCopper-Bearing · Abuloo, Guji Zone

A landmark preliminary study conducted June 24–26, 2026, by VP Consulting and the Laboratoire Français de Gemmologie (LFG, Paris) confirmed the presence of copper-bearing elbaite tourmalines from Abuloo village in the Guji Zone of Ethiopia's Oromia Region, marking a new Paraíba deposit on the world stage.

Of 21 rough tourmalines examined, 10 were classified as very fine-quality, high-value gems. Their striking blue-to-green colour is driven by copper, the same chromophore responsible for the legendary Brazilian Paraíba. These are stones from the exact region we source.

Study authors: Vincent Pardieu (VP Consulting WLL), Christian Dunaigre, Aurelien Delaunay (LFG, Laboratoire Français de Gemmologie), Dr. Stefanos Karampelas (LFG & University of Thessaloniki). Published June 2026.

Chanthaburi has been the world's cutting capital for sixty years. We explain why sending rough to Thailand is not a compromise. It is the highest expression of respect for the stone.
